TEANECK, NJ — A New York City man faces burglary charges after allegedly entering a garage and attempting to break into a home on Churchill Road.
Luis Fernando Guasco-Loja, 23, of the Bronx, was arrested Sunday following a foot chase that extended into Bergenfield, according to Deputy Chief Seth B. Kriegel.
Police received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 8:54 p.m. April 19 from a Churchill Road resident reporting a suspicious person in their rear yard.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage showing a male entering an unsecured garage and remaining inside for approximately eight minutes.
The suspect then attempted to open a locked rear door to the residence before leaving the property on foot.
Officer Cho located Guasco-Loja a short time later and attempted to stop him.
Guasco-Loja fled on foot, jumping over a fence in the backyard of a residence on Highgate Terrace in Bergenfield.
Officers from both Teaneck and Bergenfield police departments established a perimeter.
Officer Andino-Doran observed Guasco-Loja in the area of Henrietta Avenue and South Prospect Avenue in Bergenfield and took him into custody without further incident.
The investigation revealed that Guasco-Loja had entered a vehicle parked inside the caller’s attached garage.
At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of black gloves believed to have been used in the commission of the offenses.
Guasco-Loja was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of possession of burglary tools, a disorderly persons offense.
He was processed and transferred to the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.
