SOUTH SPRING VALLEY, NY — A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that left a 30-year-old man dead in a parking lot.
The Ramapo Police Department responded to a report of a deceased individual in the parking lot of 18 Park Avenue at approximately 7:15 a.m. on April 18.
Officers located the body of a 30-year-old male beneath a parked pickup truck.
The investigation determined that the parked vehicle was not involved in the incident.
Members of the Ramapo Police Department Investigations Unit and Crash Investigation Unit conducted a joint investigation.
Through review of surveillance footage, interviews and evidence collection, investigators identified a suspect vehicle.
Officers located the vehicle later that day in the Chestnut Ridge area of the Town of Ramapo.
Manuel Milton Yantalema Parco, 36, of Spring Valley, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court, where bail was set at $500,000 cash, $1,000,000 bond or $2,500,000 partially secured bond.
He was remanded to the Rockland County Jail pending a future court appearance.
Investigators believe the incident occurred during the early morning hours of April 18, when the victim was struck by a vehicle and subsequently dragged.
The vehicle then entered the parking lot of 18 Park Avenue, where the victim was removed from beneath the suspect vehicle and placed under a parked pickup truck.
