State trooper, 4 others injured in crash in Jamaica

JAMAICA, VT — A Vermont State Police trooper and four occupants of another vehicle were injured in a head-on collision on Route 100 on Sunday night.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:04 p.m. when Trooper Tyler Breen, 31, of Westminster, lost control of his cruiser while negotiating a right-hand curve.

Breen’s 2021 Ford Explorer traveled left of center and collided head-on with a 2012 Honda CRV driven by Christina Fisher, 52, of Wardsboro.

Breen and another trooper were on duty and responding to a call for service in Jamaica at the time of the crash.

Breen sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend.

Fisher sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

Three passengers in Fisher’s vehicle were also injured.

Reika Fisher, 18, the front passenger, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Myra Jacobs, 33, of Wardsboro, the rear driver’s side passenger, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

Kaori Shiya, 50, the rear passenger side passenger, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

The troopers provided medical assistance to the four injured individuals in the SUV until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene.

Both vehicles were totaled.

The weather was cloudy and cold at the time of the crash, and road conditions were clear and dry.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.
