JAMESTOWN, NY — Officers responded to the south side of the city for a report of a young child walking unsupervised near a busy roadway on April 15, 2026, at approximately 3:15 p.m.

With assistance from alert community members, officers of the Jamestown Police Department’s Second Platoon safely located the three-year-old child and conducted a canvass of the area to identify a parent or guardian.

The investigation determined the child had exited the residence without the knowledge of the child’s mother, Tayshia M. Berg, of Jamestown, and had been outside for approximately 20 to 40 minutes.

During this time, Berg did not contact police or notify officers while they were actively canvassing the area.

The child was safely reunited with family members, and appropriate arrangements were made to ensure the child’s care.

As a result of the investigation, Berg was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where she was held pending arraignment for one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Child Protective Services was notified.
