Man charged with attempted murder in Ramapo

RAMAPO, NY — A 50-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting at a barbershop on North Main Street.

The Ramapo Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at Veloz Barbershop, located at 279 North Main Street, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 17.

Officers found a 59-year-old male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim was treated at the scene by Rockland Paramedics and Spring Hill Ambulance and was transported to Westchester Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and was located by a Rockland County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit in the area of 150 West Eckerson Road.

Ramapo Police officers responded and took the suspect into custody.

The Spring Valley Police Department and the New York State Police assisted at the scene.

Ramapo Police detectives and patrol officers continued the investigation overnight.

The vehicle used by the suspect and the firearm involved in the incident were both recovered at a separate location.

Members of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted with scene processing.

The defendant has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and criminal use of a firearm.

He was arraigned before Judge Silva, who set bail at $750,000 cash, $900,000 bond, or $1,000,000 partially secured bond.

The defendant was remanded to the Rockland County Jail pending a future court appearance.
