Man arrested on shooting charges in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A 35-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly firing shots at two people following a physical altercation early Friday morning.

Officers responded to a shooting incident on Portland Street at approximately 2 a.m. on April 17, 2026.

Following an investigation, Rashon Saunders, of Middletown, was identified as the suspect.

Police determined that Saunders had been involved in a physical altercation with two individuals prior to firing several shots at them.

Saunders was located and taken into custody hours later at a residence in New London.

He has been charged with criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree (two counts), reckless endangerment in the first degree, commission of a felony with a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal mischief in the third degree, violation of a protective order and breach of peace in the second degree.

Saunders was held on a $750,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Middletown Superior Court on Monday, April 20, 2026.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
