STAFFORD, NY — A Churchville man faces vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated charges following a fatal collision on Interstate 90 that left a Syracuse man dead.
Patrick J. Hastings, 67, of Churchville, was arrested by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation on April 10, 2026.
Troopers from SP Buffalo responded to a vehicle collision on I-90 at milepost marker 384 at 8:53 p.m. on April 10, 2026.
Investigation determined that a 2024 BMW X6 traveling eastbound on I-90 struck a 2017 GMC pickup from behind, causing the GMC to overturn.
The operator of the GMC, Scott K. Berberian, 56, of Syracuse, was ejected from the vehicle and was deceased at the scene.
Hastings was uninjured and showed signs of impairment.
Hastings failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to SP Batavia, where he gave a breath sample of .08% BAC.
Hastings was processed and transported to Genesee County Jail for centralized arraignment.
He was charged with vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, a D felony, driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic offenses.
The NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Genesee County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
