Man arrested after high-speed chase in Plattekill

PLATTEKILL, NY — A 32-year-old man was arrested after leading state police on a high-speed chase that reached 115 miles per hour on Interstate 87.

Members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit observed a 2026 Nissan Altima traveling northbound on Interstate 87 at approximately 6:53 p.m. on April 8, 2026.

The vehicle was observed committing multiple violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to comply, resulting in a pursuit.

The pursuit lasted approximately 22 miles before ending after a successful tire deflation deployment disabled the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Shariff A. Frasier, of Schenectady, fled on foot after the vehicle was stopped.

He was apprehended shortly after on Sawkill Road in the Town of Ulster.

A 29-year-old female passenger was detained at the scene but was later released.

During the investigation, K9 Kell located a backpack belonging to Frasier in a wooded area near Sawkill Road.

The contents of the backpack were found to contain approximately 1 kilogram of cocaine.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed approximately $3,000 in U.S. currency.

Frasier was arrested and transported to the State Police Kingston barracks for processing.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 1st degree, a class A-1 felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree, intent to sell, a class B felony; reckless endangerment 1st degree, a class D felony; resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor; obstructing governmental administration 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor; unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd degree, an unclassified misdemeanor; and multiple uniform traffic tickets.

Frasier was arraigned at the Ulster County Central Arraignment Part and was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
