ONEIDA, NY — A man with no permanent address has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault investigation in the city.
Sean Branigan was taken into custody Friday without incident following an investigation that began March 29, according to the Oneida City Police Department.
Officers responded that day to a report of a female victim who was crying hysterically and in distress.
Police conducted an investigation that included evidence collection, interviews and follow-up work.
Branigan was charged with rape in the first degree, a class B felony; burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
He was transported to the Madison County Jail for centralized arraignment.
Branigan was released on his own recognizance despite a bail application from the District Attorney’s Office recommending $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond and $250,000 partially secured bond.
The investigation remains active, police said.
