Man arrested on DUI charge in Weathersfield

WEATHERSFIELD, VT — A Burlington man was arrested on a DUI charge following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 on March 13, 2026.

Vermont State Police from the Westminster Barracks responded to the crash at mile marker 50.6 on I-91 southbound at 4:03 p.m.

Troopers detected signs of impairment from the operator while investigating the crash.

James Russell, 31, of Burlington, was arrested after an investigation revealed he had operated his 2019 Kia Sorrento while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Russell’s vehicle sustained damage to the front passenger side, and he suffered minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital.

Russell was transported to the Hartford Police Department for processing.

He was released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windsor Criminal Division, to answer to the charge of driving under the influence.

Road conditions were dry and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash.
