BATH, NY — A Village of Bath police officer conducted a traffic stop that led to a drug arrest early Thursday morning.
The officer was on patrol in the area of West Morris Street and West Washington Street at approximately 2:53 a.m. when they observed a vehicle commit a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
After initiating the traffic stop, the officer conducted an investigation and utilized the Bath Police Department’s K9, Bud, for a cursory sniff around the vehicle.
K9 Bud positively alerted on the vehicle for the odor of narcotics, and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted.
During the search, a quantity of illegal narcotics was discovered and the operator was placed under arrest.
Michelle Chapman, 37, of Avoca, was arrested and charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor, in addition to a traffic violation.
Chapman was released on an appearance ticket and is due in Bath Village Court at a later date.
