Woman arrested on DUI charge in Lewistown

LEWISTOWN, PA — A 40-year-old Lewistown woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after running a red light and causing a crash at the intersection of Logan Street and South Walnut Street on March 6.

Officers responded to the intersection at 3:23 p.m. for a reportable crash.

The woman was driving southbound on the first block of South Walnut Street and failed to stop for a steady red light, according to police.

A second vehicle was driving westbound on the 300 block of Logan Street and crossed through the intersection facing a steady green light when it was struck by the first vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle appeared highly impaired and admitted to recently smoking marijuana, police said.

The woman told officers that her blood test would be positive for crack cocaine and marijuana.

She was arrested for DUI and transported to the hospital for a blood test.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation of suspected minor injuries.

The second vehicle was towed from the scene.

Charges are pending toxicology results.

In other incidents during the week of March 6-12:

Shawn Eckley, 39, of no fixed address, was arrested at 7:15 p.m. March 6 at the West End Service Store on a bench warrant for a theft arrest from Pennsylvania State Police-Lewistown.

Melissa A. Counts, 41, of Lewistown, was arrested at 10:49 p.m. March 6 on a charge of simple assault-domestic violence related after allegedly punching her paramour in the face during a dispute over a bottle of alcohol at a residence on the first block of Montgomery Avenue.

Destiny Brown, 23, of Lewistown, was arrested at 1:34 p.m. March 10 and charged with possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness after officers found her staggering on South Brown Street at the intersection of East Water Street.

Chase Michael Green, 36, of McVeytown, was arrested at the same time and charged with possession with the intent to deliver controlled substances, possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest after officers found cocaine and crack cocaine in his possession.

Green resisted arrest and required multiple officers and the deployment of a Taser device to secure him inside a patrol vehicle, police said.

Chase W. Mitchell, 24, of Lewistown, was arrested at 9:20 p.m. March 10 and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after repeatedly shouting profanities and homosexual slurs while driving away from the police station on Chestnut Street.

Justin L. Baker-Tallon, 27, of no fixed address, was arrested at 6:08 a.m. March 11 and charged with public drunkenness after wandering the common areas of a boarding house on the 100 block of West Third Street all night and creating a disturbance at a Sheetz store on North Juniata Street.

Christopher Gahagan Sr., 57, of no fixed address, was arrested at 3:28 p.m. March 12 on a felony criminal trespass warrant while walking on McClintock Avenue.

A 71-year-old woman from McClure was arrested at 9:44 a.m. March 12 after driving over a curb at the traffic circle in downtown Lewistown and becoming lodged on top of a concrete raised curb.

The woman admitted to consuming impairing medication and was transported to the hospital for a blood test.

Charges are pending toxicology results.

Officers also investigated a self-inflicted shooting at 10:32 a.m. March 8 on the 100 block of West Fifth Street in which an elderly male resident sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

The patient was transported to a trauma center and was in stable condition as of March 13.

Police are investigating a report of someone siphoning gasoline from vehicles parked in the 200 block of Lombardy Circle sometime after 11 p.m. March 12.
