Woman charged in lottery scam in Albany

ALBANY, NY — A 35-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a lottery scam targeting an elderly victim in Kentucky.

Alicia Stanley, of Albany, was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into a scheme that defrauded a 92-year-old woman of more than $13,000.

The Glasgow Police Department in Glasgow, Kentucky, notified the Albany Police Department on Thursday, March 5, 2026, that the elderly victim had reported being scammed.

The victim told police she received phone calls from Stanley between March 3, 2026, and March 5, 2026, claiming she had won the lottery.

Stanley allegedly told the victim she would need to pay taxes via cashier’s checks in order to receive the lottery winnings.

The victim sent two cashier’s checks totaling $10,232 and $2,800 in cash to an address in Albany via FedEx.

Members of the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Lark Drive near Manning Boulevard around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Stanley was located inside the residence and taken into custody.

She has been charged with one count of criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree and one count of scheme to defraud in the first degree.

Stanley was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and released to the supervision of Albany County Probation Services.
