BRONX, NY — New York State Police are seeking the public’s help after approximately 60,000 pounds of shelled walnuts were stolen from commercial trailers.
The theft occurred Monday in the Hunts Point area, according to state police.
The stolen shipment, valued at approximately $50,000, was taken from two 52-foot trailers.
The walnuts were packaged in palletized boxes and intended for commercial distribution.
Investigators believe the suspects may be attempting to sell the stolen walnuts to third-party vendors, wholesalers or distributors in the New York City area.
State police are asking businesses, food distributors, vendors and the public to be alert for anyone attempting to sell large quantities of packaged walnuts, particularly if offered at prices significantly below market value or under unusual circumstances.
