TONAWANDA, NY — A 73-year-old woman was found dead following a house fire in the Town of Tonawanda on March 9, 2026.
The Brighton and Kenilworth fire departments along with Town of Tonawanda police responded to 795 Woodstock Ave. at 2:26 p.m.
The fire was contained to that address.
Maureen L. Schmitt, of Tonawanda, was found deceased inside the home.
She was the only person in the house at the time of the fire.
Erie County Sheriff’s fire investigators and Town of Tonawanda detectives responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
