Driver charged in hit-and-run crash in Vestal

VESTAL, NY — A Johnson City man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly striking two pedestrians and fleeing the scene.

Vestal Police officers responded to 4700 Vestal Parkway East at approximately 12:31 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2026, for a reported hit-and-run motor vehicle accident involving two pedestrians.

Officers found two females suffering from injuries as a result of the incident.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, officers developed information to identify the vehicle and the driver in question.

Assisting agencies located the driver as he returned to his residence and he was taken into custody without issue.

The driver was identified as Andrew T. Weiskopff, 30, of Johnson City.

Weiskopff was transported to the Vestal Police Department for processing.

Weiskopff was arraigned at Central Arraignment located at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and remanded to the jail on the following charges: two counts of first-degree assault, a class B felony; two counts of second-degree assault, a class D felony; first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony; leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a class E felony; and reckless driving, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Weiskopff was also issued two traffic tickets for varying offenses.

The Vestal Police Department was assisted by the Johnson City Police Department and the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.
