DECATUR, NY — A former town supervisor faces theft and misconduct charges after allegedly paying himself more than $2,000 without authorization from the town board.

Johnathan D. Kersman, 37, of Worcester, was arrested Wednesday following a joint investigation by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Comptroller’s Office.

Kersman is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and official misconduct.

Town officials reported that Kersman, while serving as Decatur town supervisor, paid himself additional salary from the town budget without board approval, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators determined Kersman paid himself more than $2,000 without authorization.

Deputies located Kersman at his residence Wednesday, where he was taken into custody without incident.

He was processed and released with an appearance ticket returnable to Decatur Town Court at a later date.
