BATH, NY — A 46-year-old man was arrested after allegedly entering a home uninvited while two children were alone inside.

On Feb. 22, 2026 at approximately 1:55 p.m., a member of the Village of Bath Police Department and Steuben County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence on Howell Street for a report of a trespass.

Upon arrival, the complainant advised that her children, ages 17 and 14, were home alone while she was out running an errand.

During that time, a male subject who is a stranger to the family entered the residence without permission through an unlocked door.

The male then remained in the residence, attempting to carry on conversation with the children.

The male eventually exited the residence after a few minutes.

Officers were able to locate the male in a neighboring apartment and identify him as Randy N. Burdick, 46, of Bath.

Burdick was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Village of Bath Police Department for processing.

Burdick is charged with one count of criminal trespass in the second degree and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, both Class A misdemeanors.
