Man arrested on shoplifting charge in West Seneca

WEST SENECA, NY — A Hamburg man was arrested Feb. 15 after police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Wegmans.

Officers observed the 27-year-old suspect on camera moving to the self-checkout area and scanning several items before collecting his bags and exiting the store without rendering payment, according to the West Seneca Police Department.

Police apprehended him in the parking lot and recovered approximately $585 worth of stolen merchandise.

He was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.

WEST SENECA, NY — A Buffalo man and a Tonawanda man were arrested Feb. 15 for spray-painting train cars on the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks near Seneca Street and Center Road.

An officer patrolling the area spotted the two men on the train tracks and noted that they each appeared to be retrieving items from backpacks, according to the West Seneca Police Department.

Officers observed the two men spray-painting the train cars.

One attempted to run away and was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

The 37-year-old Buffalo man and 36-year-old Tonawanda man were charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, criminal trespass in the third degree, making graffiti and possession of graffiti instruments.

WEST SENECA, NY — A Lackawanna man was arrested Feb. 16 following a traffic stop on Ridge Road.

Around 2 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle driving on Ridge Road without any of its rear lights illuminated and pulled it over, according to the West Seneca Police Department.

The driver’s license was revoked.

The 36-year-old was cited for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree and no tail lamps.

WEST SENECA, NY — A Buffalo man was arrested Feb. 17 after police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Harlem Road TOPS.

While responding, officers received an update that the male suspect was fleeing on foot toward Aldi, according to the West Seneca Police Department.

Officers spotted and detained the 44-year-old without incident.

While conducting a search of the suspect incident to his arrest, they discovered a glass smoking pipe and suspected cocaine in his pocket.

He was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

WEST SENECA, NY — A West Seneca woman was arrested Feb. 17 for drunk driving after police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Seneca Street.

The car had left the roadway and collided with a utility pole, according to the West Seneca Police Department.

The female driver had slurred speech and glassy eyes, and admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to driving.

She performed poorly on field sobriety tests and registered a .319 percent blood alcohol content on a preliminary breath test.

The 31-year-old was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and a couple of traffic infractions.

WEST SENECA, NY — A transient man was arrested Feb. 18 following what began as a welfare check.

Just before 2 a.m., officers responded to a report that there was a male outside at the Seneca Square Plaza who was possibly having a panic attack, according to the West Seneca Police Department.

After verifying his welfare, the 27-year-old told officers he had multiple active warrants and wanted to get out of the cold.

The subject was taken into custody and turned over to Cheektowaga Police on their warrant without incident.

WEST SENECA, NY — Two women were arrested Feb. 18 on outstanding warrants following a traffic stop on Orchard Park Road.

Officers responded to Wegmans, where employees reported they were watching a suspected shoplifter, according to the West Seneca Police Department.

The female suspect ultimately abandoned the merchandise and left
