BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — Police are investigating an attempted burglary at an occupied home that occurred early Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to a residence on Killarney Drive at approximately 3:39 a.m. following a report of a burglary in progress.
The preliminary investigation revealed that four unidentified suspects attempted to unlawfully enter the occupied home through a first-floor window.
The attempt was unsuccessful, and the suspects fled the scene after triggering the alarm.
Responding officers immediately canvassed the area and initiated an investigation.
Detectives are actively reviewing available surveillance footage and pursuing investigative leads.
The Berkeley Heights Police Department reminds residents to ensure that all doors and windows are secured, exterior lighting is operational, and any suspicious activity is reported immediately by calling 911.
Chief Frank Mea emphasized the seriousness of the incident.
“An attempted burglary of an occupied home is extremely concerning. We take incidents like this very seriously and are dedicating all necessary resources to identify those responsible. The safety and security of our residents remains our highest priority.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
