WESTMORE, VT — Two men have been arrested in connection with an attempted burglary at the Willoughby Lake Store on Feb. 8.
Joshua Waterman, 40, of Glover, and Marcel Cotnoir, 49, of Barton, were charged with attempted burglary, unlawful trespass, unlawful mischief, possession of burglar tools and habitual criminal.
Vermont State Police received a report of a possible burglary at the store located at 2003 Route 5A at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 8.
Troopers responded and met with the store owner, who provided surveillance footage of the incident.
The footage showed what appeared to be a blue Subaru Outback pull onto the shoulder near the store at approximately 4:30 a.m., according to police.
Two males exited the vehicle and attempted to break into the store by using a crowbar and smashing the front door window, police said.
The attempts were unsuccessful.
At approximately 4:32 a.m., both males returned to the vehicle and left the scene, according to police.
Troopers from the St. Johnsbury barracks initiated a traffic stop on the evening of Feb. 8 on a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the attempted burglary.
Troopers located evidence linking the two men to the attempted burglary at the Willoughby Lake Store.
Both men were arrested and lodged at Northeast Correctional Facility on a separate incident.
Both men were later criminally cited into Orleans County Criminal Court on Feb. 17 at 12:30 p.m.
