SAYREVILLE, NJ — A South River man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a gas station last month.

Fernando Ramos Garcia, 30, of South River, was arrested Feb. 5 and charged with robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The charges stem from a Jan. 16 incident at the Delta Gas Station at 350 Main Street.

At approximately 8:44 p.m. that day, two males approached a gas station attendant, sprayed him with pepper spray and stole cash from him before fleeing on foot toward Hillside Avenue, according to the Sayreville Police Department.

An investigation by the Sayreville Police Department Detective Bureau revealed that a similar robbery had occurred in South River on Jan. 2.

Through cooperative efforts with the South River Police Department’s Detective Bureau, Garcia was identified as one of the suspects.

Garcia is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending further court proceedings.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue efforts to identify and apprehend the second suspect involved.
