Driver dies after collision in Batavia

BATAVIA, NY — A 46-year-old man died after a two-vehicle collision on Feb. 12, 2026.

Troopers from SP Batavia responded to West Main Street and Kelsey Road in the town of Batavia at 2:50 p.m. for a vehicle collision.

Investigation determined that a 1983 Mercury Marquis operated by Thomas J. Luby, 46, of Elba, was traveling eastbound on West Main Street when it crossed the center line and struck a 2013 Toyota 4-Runner.

Luby was transported to Erie County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The operator of the 4-Runner had no injuries.

Luby succumbed to his injuries while being treated at ECMC.

The investigation is active.

The NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
