HARTFORD, VT — A Connecticut man was arrested early Thursday after leading police on two pursuits that ended when his vehicle crashed into a snowbank.
Bradley DeJesus, 29, of Hamden, Connecticut, was taken into custody on Interstate 91 after fleeing on foot from the crash scene.
The incident began at 12:20 a.m. when an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Sykes Mountain Avenue.
The vehicle pulled into Station Market and stopped.
As the officer stepped out of his cruiser, the driver accelerated away and drove on the wrong side of North Hartland Road until reaching the Interstate 91 Exit 11 intersection.
Officers pursued the vehicle to the Hartland border before terminating the chase.
Officers located the vehicle again on Vermont Route 5 in Hartland and resumed pursuit until it struck a snowbank.
The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Hartford officers, assisted by the Windsor Police Department, searched the area.
A concerned citizen reported a man hitchhiking on Interstate 91, and Windsor police located and arrested DeJesus.
DeJesus was charged with attempting to elude with negligent operation and grossly negligent operation.
He was also found to have an extraditable arrest warrant from Connecticut.
DeJesus’ vehicle was seized pending a search warrant application.
Judge Mann of Vermont Superior Court ordered DeJesus held on $150,000 bail on the Vermont charges.
He was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility.
Officers are working on charges related to the Connecticut arrest warrant.
