PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County Police have charged three people for attempting to smuggle contraband into the Allegheny County Jail.
Last month, detectives assigned to the Allegheny County Jail began to receive information about two incarcerated individuals planning to introduce synthetic cannabinoids, also known as K2, into the Allegheny County Jail.
Those individuals were identified as Tyreace Platt, 31, and Chaz Coles, 39.
On Feb. 2, detectives reviewed jail records that indicated Platt and Coles were working with a male to have the drugs placed in a bathroom of a local magistrate’s office on Feb. 3, when Coles was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing.
At 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 3, detectives responded to the magistrate’s office and later observed Tyrique Craighead, 33, arrive at the office and enter the bathroom.
When Craighead exited the bathroom, detectives conducted a search and discovered an open bag of Doritos that appeared to contain multiple items of suspected contraband.
Further search of the item revealed multiple pieces of rolled paper which tested positive for synthetic cannabinoids.
Craighead was taken into custody.
All three individuals are facing multiple charges to include criminal conspiracy, contraband, and criminal use of a communication facility.
