BRIGHTON — A 50-year-old Proctorsville woman died Friday after her snowmobile struck trees on a VAST trail in Brighton.
Vermont State Police were notified at approximately 12:55 p.m. on January 31, 2026, of a snowmobile crash resulting in serious injury on VAST Trail 2001 in Brighton.
Laurie Jackson, 50, of Proctorsville, was transported by Newport EMS to North Country Hospital in Newport, where she was pronounced dead after life-saving measures.
Investigation revealed Jackson was traveling north on VAST Trail 2001 near Meadow Street when she failed to negotiate a left-hand turn.
The snowmobile drove off the trail to the right and struck a group of trees, sustaining significant damage to the front end.
Jackson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Trail conditions were groomed and in fair condition, police say.
Brighton Fire Department and the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles assisted on scene.
