Shotgun theft investigated in Ellenville

ELLENVILLE, NY — Police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a shotgun from a residence.

The Ellenville Police Department investigated a report of a stolen 12-gauge shotgun from a residence on Tuthill Avenue on Jan. 16, 2026.

The investigation led police to identify a suspect in the City of Newburgh.

Ellenville Police contacted the City of Newburgh Police Department’s Detective Division for assistance in locating the suspect.

On Jan. 28, 2026, at 4:30 p.m., detectives from the City of Newburgh Police Department located the suspect.

He was turned over to members of the Ellenville Police Department and brought back to the police department where he was interviewed.

Ellenville Police, with the assistance of City of Newburgh Police detectives, conducted a search of a residence in Newburgh and located the stolen 12-gauge shotgun.

Justin M. Ferman, 20, of Newburgh, was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony.

He was processed and issued an appearance ticket to return to the Town of Wawarsing on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
