WESTWOOD, NJ — A man faces multiple charges including strangulation and weapons offenses following a domestic violence incident that prompted a shots fired call.
Westwood Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 report of shots fired at a residence on Fern Street at approximately 6:02 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2026.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office was notified and consulted.
Detectives from the Westwood Police Department responded to assist with the investigation and documentation of the scene.
Multiple firearms and ammunition were seized from the residence for safekeeping pursuant to court authorization.
A Temporary Restraining Order and a Temporary Extreme Risk Protective Order were granted by the court.
Salvatore R. Tropea was charged with second-degree strangulation, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment.
The incident remains under investigation by the Westwood Police Department.
