Driver arrested for DUI after crash in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, VT — A Troy man faces his third DUI charge after a head-on collision with a state plow truck on Route 109 on Jan. 17, 2026.

Vermont State Police responded to the crash at approximately 6:47 p.m. near Marsh Road.

Lars McManus, 55, of Troy was driving a 2019 Nissan Rogue north on Route 109 when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a southbound Agency of Transportation plow truck, according to police.

The plow truck was operated by Daniel Demers, 38, of Newport Center.

Both vehicles were disabled from the impact.

McManus, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained chest, head and leg injuries and was transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment.

Demers, who was wearing a seat belt, reported no injuries.

Police said impairment was a contributing factor in the crash.

The Nissan Rogue was totaled, and the 2017 International tandem dump/plow truck sustained heavy damage to its rear axles, drivetrain and hydraulic reservoirs.

McManus was arrested on suspicion of DUI and issued a citation to appear at Lamoille County Superior Court on April 8, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. to answer charges of DUI third offense and violation of conditions of release.

Road conditions at the time were wet with areas of snow cover under cloudy skies.

Vermont State Police was assisted by VT DMV Enforcement, Cambridge Fire and Rescue, Notch Road Auto and Rick’s Towing.
