Man barricaded in home during mental health crisis in Pequannock

PEQUANNOCK, NJ — A man experiencing a mental health crisis barricaded himself in a room at a residence on Jan. 14, 2026.

The Pequannock Police Department received a report at approximately 7:30 a.m. of an adult male who had threatened a family member and had access to knives before locking himself in a room.

Pequannock Police officers responded to the scene and conducted an initial assessment.

Officers secured the home and set up a perimeter that included closing local roads.

Surrounding residents were notified out of an abundance of caution.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office were notified and responded with specialized units to assist.

The man was safely removed from the home by members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office SERT team without further incident.

He was transported for evaluation.
