Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in Bristol

BRISTOL, CT — A bicyclist was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on Birch Street.

Bristol Police were dispatched to the area of 263 Birch Street at 5:31 p.m. on Jan. 8 for a report of a bicyclist struck by a silver or gray Jeep Grand Cherokee that left the scene.

The bicyclist was subsequently struck by a second vehicle traveling on Birch Street.

Officers found an adult male trapped under the second vehicle upon arrival.

The operator of the second vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative with police.

Officers began lifesaving measures until emergency medical services arrived and continued treatment.

EMS personnel originally planned to transport the victim to a landing zone for LifeStar, but were diverted to Bristol Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Tomek Paluch, 36, of Bristol.

Next of kin has been located and notified.

The Bristol Police Department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to process the scene.

Police are searching for a silver or gray Jeep Grand Cherokee with visible front right or passenger side damage.
