JORDAN, NY — New York State Police arrested two people following a shots fired incident on Mechanic Street on January 8, 2026.
Police responded to the village at approximately 8:12 p.m. for a reported shots fired incident.
A preliminary investigation determined that a verbal dispute between neighbors in upstairs and downstairs apartments escalated into a physical altercation.
The upstairs neighbor, Renee Fatta, 43, of Jordan, allegedly forced entry into the downstairs apartment and accused one of the occupants of stealing packages delivered to her residence.
During the confrontation, Fatta was pushed out of the apartment and the door was secured.
A short time later, one of the downstairs residents exited the apartment and went into the driveway to move a vehicle.
Daniel T. Ballard, 40, of Jordan, then exited the upstairs apartment, went downstairs, and allegedly armed himself with a rifle before firing one round into the driveway area in the direction of the individual moving the vehicle.
The round did not strike anyone, and no injuries were reported.
State Police obtained a search warrant for the upstairs apartment.
The search resulted in the seizure of three firearms, ammunition, and body armor.
Ballard was charged with reckless endangerment in the 1st degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree, and unlawful purchase and possession of body armor in the 1st degree.
Fatta was charged with criminal trespass in the 2nd degree and harassment in the 2nd degree.
Ballard was transported to Syracuse City Court pending arraignment.
Fatta was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Elbridge Town Court on January 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Jordan Police Department and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
