LEROY, NY — An on-duty detective was injured Wednesday when his vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver at noon.
Detective Vangalio was traveling southbound on State Route 19 when a northbound vehicle failed to yield while turning west onto Munson Street, causing a collision, according to the LeRoy Police Department.
Open beer cans were observed throughout the other vehicle at the scene.
Both Detective Vangalio and the operator of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
After being medically cleared at the hospital, the operator was taken into custody for DWI.
The suspect is a 29-year-old male with two prior DWI convictions.
While at the hospital, the suspect was argumentative and uncooperative, urinated on the emergency room floor, and required multiple officers to take into custody, police said.
Detective Vangalio was not seriously injured.
