WORTH, NY — State Police are investigating a fatal snowmobile accident that occurred Jan. 1, 2026.
Troopers responded to Waite Road at approximately 12:57 p.m. for the incident.
A preliminary investigation determined that two males were operating snowmobiles on Junction 306, a snowmobile trail near Waite Road.
One operator stopped along the trail and dismounted his snowmobile.
As the second operator came over the hill, they were unable to stop in time and struck the stopped individual, resulting in fatal injuries.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, where he was pronounced deceased.
The decedent has been identified as Joseph R. DiDomenico, 55, of Liverpool.
The other operator involved is a 16-year-old male, of Liverpool.
An evaluation of the operator involved showed no signs of impairment.
At this time, the incident appears to be accidental.
State Police were assisted at the scene by State Forest Rangers, South Jefferson Rescue Squad, Town of Lorraine First Responders, the Barnes Corners Snow-Pals Snowmobile Club, and S and R Automotive.
The investigation remains ongoing.
