Two arrested on burglary charges in Chemung

CHEMUNG, NY — Two people were arrested on burglary and child endangerment charges following an investigation into a break-in at a Masonic lodge, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.

Jennifer L. Malorzo, 38, and Nicholas P. Malorzo, 35, both of Waverly, were charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief in the second degree, endangering the welfare of a child and petit larceny.

Deputies were dispatched to the Masonic Valley Lodge 153 at approximately 7:16 p.m. on Nov. 28 for a report of a burglary.

During the initial investigation, deputies learned that the building had been forcibly entered and property within was damaged and stolen.

The Criminal Investigation Division continued the investigation.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage, which showed two adults and three young children all under the age of 8 approaching the building and one of the adults forcibly opening a door.

The adults are then seen returning to a vehicle, leaving the children unattended in the vehicle, and returning to the building where they unlawfully enter.

A short time later, the adults are seen exiting the building with property and leaving the area.

Both were arraigned in the Town of Chemung Court.

Both were released on their own recognizance and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The matter was hotlined to the Tioga County Child Protective Services based on the parents having the children present during the crime.
