JAMESTOWN, NY — A man was arrested on drug and evidence tampering charges following a traffic stop Wednesday evening.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on a bicycle in the area of Willard Street and Allen Street at around 6:04 p.m. for equipment violations.
Officers identified the operator as Ramael O. Fields.
While speaking with Fields, officers observed suspected illegal drugs in a plastic bag protruding from a coat pocket.
Fields fled on foot when officers attempted to retrieve the bag.
Officers subdued Fields and took him into custody after a brief physical struggle.
During the foot pursuit and struggle, Fields threw the bag of suspected drugs into a storm drain in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Officers retrieved the bag, which contained a quantity of methamphetamine.
Fields was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and charged with tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, resisting arrest and traffic violations.
He was held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
