Man arrested on carjacking charge in Lanoka Harbor

LANOKA HARBOR, NJ — A man was arrested after allegedly stealing an idling vehicle and striking the owner before crashing into decorative light posts Saturday night.

Officers from the Lacey Township Police Department responded to 706 North Main Street at approximately 9:45 p.m. for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was quickly located on Rail Road Avenue, where it sat disabled from the crash.

William Sabie, 44, of Lanoka Harbor, was found in the driver seat and placed under arrest.

The investigation revealed that Sabie entered the idling vehicle while the owner stood outside removing frost from the windshield.

Sabie then began to drive away, striking the victim with the vehicle before fleeing the area.

He ultimately crashed on Rail Road Avenue.

Sabie was charged with carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, assault by auto, DWI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury and failure to report.

He was lodged in Ocean County Jail pending a future court appearance.
