RED CREEK, NY — New York State Police arrested a man Friday following an investigation into identity theft reported in the town.
Thomas R. Alnutt, 35, of Oswego, was taken into custody Dec. 13 after an investigation that began in November 2024.
The victim reported that multiple credit card accounts had been opened in the victim’s name without authorization.
The fraudulent activity was discovered after financial institutions contacted the victim regarding balances owed on accounts the victim did not open.
An investigation determined that the fraudulent accounts were opened and that the victim did not authorize the use of personal identifying information.
Financial records obtained during the investigation confirmed the unauthorized activity.
Alnutt was arrested by appointment at State Police barracks in Wolcott without incident.
He was charged with second-degree identity theft, a class E felony.
Alnutt was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Wolcott Town Court on Dec. 18 at 11 a.m.
