DERBY, VT — Vermont State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on U.S. Route 5 early Friday morning.

The crash was reported at approximately 5:02 a.m. in front of Dunkin Donuts.

Lori Collins, 52, of Newport, was traveling north on U.S. Route 5 when she failed to yield to oncoming traffic while attempting to turn left into the Dunkin Donuts parking lot, according to police.

Collins’ 2011 Volvo S40 was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Laurie Craig, 60, of Derby, who was traveling south.

Police said current roadway conditions, which included a thin packed layer of snow and ice, were a contributing factor to the crash.

Weather at the time was cloudy and windy.

Collins reported minor injuries but declined transport by emergency medical services.

Craig reported no injuries.

Collins’ vehicle sustained damage to the passenger side front end, while Craig’s vehicle sustained damage to the passenger side panels.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Ray’s Auto.

Both operators were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
