Man arrested on DWI charge in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, NY — A 33-year-old Albany man was arrested on drunken driving charges after a report of erratic driving on State Route 5.

State Police from Fonda responded to the report at about 10:46 p.m. Nov. 28.

A trooper patrolled the area and located a vehicle matching the caller’s description.

With assistance from the Amsterdam Police Department, the vehicle was stopped for a vehicle and traffic law violation on State Route 5 westbound.

The driver was identified as Steven T. Anson, 33, of Albany.

Anson was arrested for driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment in the second degree and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was transported to State Police Fonda for processing, where he refused to provide a sample to determine the alcohol content of his blood.

Further investigation discovered Anson has had a previous DWI conviction in the last 10 years.

Anson was transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
