JAMESTOWN, NY — Two parents were arrested after police found children living in severely unsafe and unsanitary conditions at a residence on the city’s south end.
Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 2nd Platoon responded to the home at approximately 4:19 p.m. on Dec. 9 for a welfare check after local school officials reported concerns about children in the residence.
Police determined the apartment had substantial sanitation concerns, environmental hazards, non-functional household facilities and inadequate safe food resources.
The overall condition of the home presented an immediate risk to the health and safety of the children, according to police.
During the investigation, officers discovered both parents had an active Order of Protection issued against them on behalf of the youngest child.
Devin C. Perez and Christine M. Perez were each charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and one count of Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree.
The children were immediately removed from the residence with the assistance of Child Protective Services.
Both defendants were transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where they are being held pending arraignment.
