TOMS RIVER, NJ — Two hospitals in Ocean County were placed on lockdown Tuesday after receiving bomb threats.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that law enforcement was notified Dec. 9 that bomb threats had been called into Community Medical Center in Toms River and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood.
Both hospitals were placed on lockdown.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit conducted sweeps of both facilities with negative results.
The hospitals were subsequently reopened.
The threats are under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Homeland Security Squad, Lakewood Township Police Department, Toms River Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.
