CLYDE, NY — Firefighters battled a house fire in frigid conditions Thursday night on Route 414 just north of the village.
The Clyde Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 7:37 p.m. for a possible structure fire.
Chief James Lee arrived less than two minutes after dispatch and confirmed a working structure fire with heavy fire in the attic of the house.
Clyde Engine 49 and Quint 3 arrived with full crews and quickly advanced handlines while placing an aerial device to begin fire suppression.
Crews from Savannah and Rose fire departments arrived shortly after to assist with suppression and water supply.
Lyons Fire Department was requested to the scene for rapid intervention team duties, and Wayne County Tanker Task Force 1 was activated to establish a water supply operation as the incident was outside the hydrant district.
Seneca Falls Fire Department was initially requested to cover Clyde’s station and was later moved up to the scene to assist with manpower.
Crews faced limited water access and frigid conditions.
The fire was contained to the second floor and attic space, with the structure sustaining severe smoke and water damage.
Wallington Fire Department was requested to the scene to assist with suppression and overhaul.
Units cleared the scene and the road was reopened at 1 a.m.
