NEWPORT — The Memphremagog Watershed Association is celebrating three team members who received recognition for their community service and environmental stewardship.

Board member Farley Brown of Craftsbury received the 2025 Municipal Service Award from the Vermont League of Cities & Towns. Brown has spent more than 20 years serving on Craftsbury’s Planning Commission and Conservation Commission, contributing to the town’s plans, village center designations and long-term planning efforts, according to the association. She also serves on the Northern Vermont Development Association Board of Directors and is a professor at Sterling College, where she integrates students and college programs into local projects.

Board member Beth Torpey was honored for 25 years of service with the Seymour Lake Association. Gov. Phil Scott sent Torpey a letter of commendation dated June 23 acknowledging her leadership and scientific expertise in protecting Seymour Lake and its native species. She was also recognized at the Seymour Lake Association’s annual meeting, where she received a painting of the lake.

Staff member Patrick Hurley, the association’s project manager, received a “One Town” Community Service Award at a gala hosted by Jay Peak Resort in October. The annual event recognizes individuals across the Northeast Kingdom who dedicate time to their communities. Hurley was recognized for his work in watershed restoration, volunteer engagement and community outreach.

“We’re so proud to celebrate Farley, Beth, and Patrick—and all the ways they give back to our communities and the watershed we love,” said Tom Latta, the association’s board president. “Their passion, dedication, and care for the people and places around them truly make a difference.”
