ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A Jersey City police sergeant was arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Andrew LaBruno, 44, of Dumont, was taken into custody Monday following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department.
Authorities said the Englewood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on Monday regarding an alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that had occurred in Englewood.
An investigation revealed that LaBruno, a stranger to the victim, engaged in conversation with the juvenile on a social media application and made arrangements to meet, according to prosecutors.
LaBruno then sexually assaulted and endangered the juvenile at the juvenile’s residence in Englewood while the juvenile was home alone, authorities said.
LaBruno was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
