BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man has been charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in serious bodily injury and assault by auto in connection with a collision that occurred Nov. 8.
William Donohoe, 43, of Brick Township, was charged Nov. 9, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
At approximately 10:55 p.m. Nov. 8, officers from the Brick Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Midstreams Road and Midstreams Place.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Brick Township Police Department revealed that a Nissan Rogue was traveling northbound on Midstreams Place when it made a left-hand turn onto Midstreams Road and struck an electric bicycle being operated by a 15-year-old male.
The Nissan failed to stop and continued traveling westbound on Midstreams Road.
The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he remains hospitalized in stable condition.
As responding officers were rendering aid to the victim, they observed Donohoe walking toward the crash site from a significant distance away.
Investigation revealed that Donohoe was the individual operating the Nissan that struck the electric bicycle and left the scene.
Officers observed that Donohoe appeared to be intoxicated.
Officers attempted to administer standardized field sobriety tests to Donohoe.
Donohoe was unable to successfully perform the tests and was charged with driving under the influence and placed under arrest.
Donohoe was transported to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township, where a draw of his blood was obtained pursuant to court-authorized warrant.
The results of the blood draw remain pending.
Donohoe was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.
