HINGHAM, MA — Police recovered a firearm after responding to a report of two individuals breaking into motor vehicles early Monday morning.
Officers were called to Beal’s Cove Village at approximately 12:30 a.m. Nov. 3 after a resident reported seeing two people attempting to enter parked vehicles in the complex.
The caller stated the two were in an Audi SUV speeding from lot to lot and attempting to open doors of parked vehicles.
The first officer on scene observed an occupied Audi SUV in one of the parking lots and activated emergency lights to initiate a motor vehicle stop.
The Audi then accelerated and attempted to exit the parking lot, driving over large boulders at the edge of the lot and sustaining major undercarriage damage that caused the vehicle to leak oil.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the complex and two occupants exited and fled on foot.
The Audi SUV was later reported stolen out of Medford.
Weymouth Police and Massachusetts State Police assisted in attempting to locate the suspects in the area.
A K9 unit from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene and began a track.
During the course of the track, a firearm was located under a vehicle in the vicinity where the suspects fled.
The suspects were not located.
The incident remains under investigation.
