FORT EDWARD, NY — A 59-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge after allegedly receiving government benefits he was not eligible for.
Peter A. Casazza, of Proctor, was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony, according to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy.
The arrest followed a joint investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit and the Washington County Department of Social Services.
Investigators determined Casazza received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits from Washington County Department of Social Services that he was not eligible for, resulting in him receiving benefits greater than $1,000.
Casazza was arrested after an arrest warrant was issued for him.
He was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment where he was released on his own recognizance pending a future court date in the Town of Fort Edward Court.
