SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Massachusetts man was arrested after police located a stolen van in a supermarket parking lot.
The Southington Police Department received a license plate reader alert for a stolen Mercedes Sprinter van that had entered town at approximately 5:12 p.m. on Oct. 24.
Patrol officers located the vehicle traveling southbound on North Main Street before it turned into the parking lot of Stop & Shop, 505 North Main Street.
The vehicle parked in the lot, and officers made contact with the operator as he began exiting the vehicle.
The operator was identified as Stephen Oldham, 41, of Middleboro, Massachusetts.
Oldham was taken into custody without incident.
Oldham initially provided investigating officers with a false name and date of birth.
Further investigation revealed that Oldham had three active hard-copy arrest warrants from other police agencies within Connecticut.
Oldham also had three active PRAWN warrants within Connecticut, along with seven non-extraditable arrest warrants out of Massachusetts.
The 2011 Mercedes Sprinter van was confirmed to have been stolen out of Middleboro, Massachusetts.
Oldham was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and criminal impersonation.
Oldham was also processed for the three outstanding PRAWN warrants.
Oldham was held on cash or surety bonds totaling $500,000.
Oldham was scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on Oct. 27.
