JAMESTOWN, NY — Two people were arrested on shoplifting charges at a Tops Market on Washington Street on Oct. 23.
Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s Second Platoon were at the store around 3:15 p.m. handling a separate investigation when store staff reported two individuals actively stealing merchandise.
A female suspect was detained and identified as Amber Coy.
A male suspect, later identified as Michael Hillman, fled the scene on foot.
Officers located Hillman a short time later at a nearby location.
After a brief struggle, Hillman was taken into custody.
Coy was found to have an active bench warrant through Jamestown City Court.
Investigation revealed that Coy was the protected party in an active stay-away order of protection against Hillman, issued by Jamestown City Court.
Hillman also had an active warrant through the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
Both Coy and Hillman were transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where they are being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
Hillman is charged with petit larceny, resisting arrest and aggravated criminal contempt.
Coy is charged with petit larceny.
